Corrupt date field formet in the exported .XLS in MS Excel

Postby Balazs Hober » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:29 pm

Question:
I noticed that when I exported our data as an excel spreadsheet, the entries for ‘safe useful life expectancy’ that are 5-15 years come out on the spreadsheet as ‘May 15’. I assume this is because ‘5-15’ is shorthand for writing 15th May. Is this an excel problem or something we should change in the general.cdt file?

Answer:
This is because the .XLS export in DigiTerra Explorer stores the attributes in the common "SYLK" text format not the binary Excel, because it isn't public. It means, that the data fields are stored as a simple tab delimited file; and when you open this file Microsoft Excel will recognize each data field in "General" field format as default, but you can control the file opening process in Excel.

Take a look at the first solution in the following tutorial here: http://digiterra.hu/distribution/attmts ... Excel.html

2nd solution is a minor modification in the code dictionary file by using " character in the following way:

Code: Select all

# SULE
1 "5-15"
2 "15-20"
3 "25-30"

If you have any question, just let me know. 8-)
