Aerial Photo's in JPG format

Postby spider » Thu Apr 26, 2012 5:25 pm

Is there any plans to allow DigiTerra to add JPG aerial photo's with geo-location stored in the corresponding TAB file?

Currently the JPG when added, as to be scaled and positioned manually unlike other GIS software.

We are not planning to store the georeference parameters in a TAB file, because you can store these definitions directly in the DigiTerra Explorer Map - .EXP project or even in a common WORLD file for every georeferenced image. I hope this will be helpful.

Unfortunately not very helpful in my case as the aerial photography I am now supplied is in the jpg format rather than ecw. When I queried this change I was told most people want images in jpg format with the geodata in the tab file as they are usable in more types of software than the ecw files. This change didn't effect MapInfo users, etc, only those if us using DigiTerra as our GIS software of choice.

Spider, DigiTerra Explorer don't support the MapInfo image TAB files for the time being. To place the image correctly inside DigiTerra Explorer, you'd need to have the georeferencing data saved in a world file (JGW in this case). The WORLD file is a plain text data file used by almost all GIS software to georeference raster map images. The file specification was introduced by Esri, so we can say that it is a quasi industry standard file format. Maybe the MapInfo image TAB files will be supported only in DigiTerra Explorer version 7, we registered your feature request.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you for the more detailed information. I will look for a way to batch process .tab files to .jgw files which I do hope is possible.

Within the last few weeks I have finally moved over to version 7. I tried to add the JPG aerial photo's and Digiterra still does not recognise the the geodata. Just wondering if their is any progress on this feature?

Hi Spider,

Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately we have not started to implement a JPG + MapInfo image TAB file support because there was not considerable interest since you requested it, but you can use the standard WORLD file based georeferencing in the software: http://wiki.digiterra.hu/en/downloads/D ... erties.htm

Is it still a serious feature request for you? Can you please send an example JPEG + MapInfo image TAB and the same WORLD file to the JPEG file?

Waiting for your reply.

Thanks,
Balazs
